Post-half marathon recovery week 1 (completed!)

So I know that traditionally you should wait for approx 13 days after a half marathon before resuming regular training, etc. That being said I decided I couldn't NOT run for that long.

So I have devised a "plan" of running for this week that shouldn't be too stressing on my fatigued legs and joints and should allow me to get out and get my run on!

Monday May 21st - REST
Tuesday May 22nd - REST
Wednesday May 23rd - 2 miles EZ --> Done 2.15 miles in 32:00 (14:45 pace)
Thursday May 24th - 30 minutes --> Done 2.25 miles in 30:00 (13:20 pace) + ST - Strength training (W = Weights)
Friday May 25th - 35 minutes --> Done 2.68 miles in 35:00 (13:03 pace)
Saturday May 26th - 30 minutes --> Done 2.31 miles in 30:00 (12:59 pace) + ST W
Sunday May 27th - 35 minutes --> Done REST DAY

I think I will continue a similar "recovery" plan for next week and then will resume my regular "non-training" schedule the following week

Half Marathon Training Run 3.39

Today's run went ok. Legs were feeling kind of heavy. Not sure if that is a good sign considering I should be tapering this week in regards to training. Making me consider my final 2 training runs and if I should do them, or maybe make them training walks (or even wogs)... Any input out there?

Half Marathon Training Run 3.38

I do not enjoy running in the heat! I need to get up and be out to run tomorrow morning at 8am. That way it won't be as hot and that way I can get in the habit of running earlier, especially since my half is on Sunday and is in the morning. I suppose I did run in the heat of the day... Not my smartest moment, but I did it! :)

Half Marathon Training Run 3.35

First run in Grove in a LONG time! Decided to do a run we used to do in high school up this road called Hillside Drive. I was reminded why I always despised this run back in my cross country and track days... The hills are steep! Not super steep but there is a decent incline and it goes on for almost the entire road. And I decided to do an out and back route, so 2 miles out and then 2 miles back home. The back home wasn't as bad because there was quite a bit more downhill, but I definitely felt the downhill in my lower back, so I'm sure that wasn't great. My first mile was 13:34, second was 12:24, third was 13:16, and fourth was 12:22. I suppose that's decent for the type of run it was, and as much as it sucked doing it, I miss longer hilly runs like this, since there aren't a lot of hills where I live in Salem. All in all a good run and looking forward to my 3 miler here in Grove tomorrow :)

Half Marathon Training Run 3.34

This jog went well. Considering my legs were super sore and stiff from my first Spartan class yesterday! I am glad I went out. Hadn't really been feeling like it as my stomach was somewhat crampy and just not feeling well. But I figured I'm into my final 2 weeks of training for my half and it's just 12 days away, I better keep at it! Started around 13:30 pace, which is slower than I want to run my half marathon in, but I had negative splits for both mile 2 and mile 3, which has been happening a lot as my legs ease into the run and I get warmed up. Hoping for a good run tomorrow and lots of stretching tonight!

Half Marathon Training Run 3.33

Just a quick little run to the post office and then taking the long "loop" route back home. Thinking about going to spin class in an hour so I didn't want to waste too much energy with a longer run. Figure I will save the distance for the weekend :)

Half Marathon Training Run 3.32

It went ok. Legs and back were a little sore from running yesterday and then trying out two new workouts, but aside from that it went well. Hopefully that tomorrow I can do 5 miles, but we will see. Then this weekend I have my LSR for 12 miles.

Half Marathon Training Run 3.31

Did my first mile in 12:15, second in 11:45 (and this mile included the long hill at Bush Park), third in 10:54 and fourth in 12:59 - not too bad overall, but I did get a side cramp again a little after mile 3 and I am thinking maybe it's just because I have been pushing it more lately, but I am really trying to amp up through this week so next week and the week leading up to my half can be all about tapering. Hadn't ran since Thursday's low mileage day, so this was much needed!

Todays' Stats = 4.00 miles in 47:57

Half Marathon Training Run 3.30

Ok so I wasn't feeling so great today. Thought I could try to go out and run anyway, like a good training runner would... Well, needless to say I didn't get too far. Hoping that things go better this weekend on my long run. And I'm glad I was able to get in some miles, no matter how short.

Half Marathon Training Run 3.29

Ok, so I was doing AWESOME. Until a little after the 3 mile mark when I got a massive side ache and could not even extend my stomach out or even jog upright. I ended up walking the last portion because I really wanted to do at least 3 miles, a goal which I met, and I wanted to know the distance from my house, to the park, one loop around the park, and then back home. But here is what was awesome, my third mile I ran I did in 10:39! I haven't ran a mile that fast in a LONG time. My first mile was 11:54, my second was 12:30 (this mile had an icky hill in it, which I ran up all the way without walking), and then my third was 10:39. I was overjoyed when I saw that on my Garmin. What a great day to run and what a great run!

Todays' stats = 3.65 miles in 46:00
- Mile 1 = 11:54
- Mile 2 = 12:30
- Mile 3 = 10:39
- 0.65 =  10:57 (walked)

Half Marathon Training Run 3.28

Tried to pick up the pace a bit. Wanted to do this run faster than my desired half marathon pace, which is 12:35 per mile. Thinking if I can do my shorter runs at this pace, then my remaining two long runs at about a minute slower than my desired race pace, I should be good at keeping on track. Had to walk a little between 1.35 miles and 1.50 miles, so it may have been even faster if I hadn't done that.

Todays' stats = 2.00 miles in 23:00
