Portland Rock n' Roll Half Marathon 2012 (Part 2) - My Playlist!

Because I LOVE music it means I LOVE (and despise) putting together playlists for races. I love it because I enjoy finding a good mix of music, and I despise it because I have over 7500 songs on my itunes and it makes it EXTREMELY difficult to choose!

That being said, this playlist has definitely been a labor of love, particularly because it took me a few days to whittle down and finalize. Then I kept thinking of songs that I liked and knew I had but knew I hadn't added to my list yet!

Anywho, I like to approximate that I go through roughly 3-4 songs per mile, depending on song length and depending on mile pace OF COURSE. For this race I approximated it to 4 songs per mile with 1 mile having 5 shorter songs.

Portland Rock n' Roll Half Marathon 2012 (Part 1) - EXPO!

Thought I would share with you my exciting trip to the Expo for the Inaugural Portland Rock n' Roll Half Marathon that is this Sunday!

I live a little less than an hour south of Portland, so I am not staying in Portland for the race but will drive up with my mom in the morning on Sunday.

I like doing that a LOT better because I LOVE sleeping in my own bed!

The Expo was a lot of fun.

Being unemployed and on a limited budget I wasn't able to buy things that I wanted to get, like super awesome shirts, headbands, hats, etc.

However, there were tons of free samples and I still got my super awesome swag bag with my Brooks technical race t-shirt :)

So I can't complain!

Anyway, here are some pictures I took to share! :)

I really liked this little countdown... It did make me a little more nervous! It's soooo close!

Two time Olympian runner, Kara Goucher, was giving an interview while I was there! How exciting! She is definitely a running celebrity and a shining example for women runners and women athletes! If I could even have half of her talent I would be doing well!

The front of my race shirt. It is actually REALLY cute and I LOVE the color. Very exciting for a race shirt. Something I will actually want to wear!

My race bib. I'm in the 19th corral and there are 23 corrals. Yes, I am a slow runner.

And here is what I will be running for on Sunday... the BEAUTIFUL race bling! Can't wait to earn mine!!

Half Marathon Training Run 3.39

Today's run went ok. Legs were feeling kind of heavy. Not sure if that is a good sign considering I should be tapering this week in regards to training. Making me consider my final 2 training runs and if I should do them, or maybe make them training walks (or even wogs)... Any input out there?

Just Closed... [Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire]

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4)Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was definitely my favorite of the HP books so far. I love the character development that has been continuing from book 1. It is so fun to "grow up" with these kids and to see how they mature and grow, etc. I thought this book did a great job of continuing a lot of the other storylines from prior books as well as bringing in new ideas and new challenges for the characters. That being said, I don't think anything got rushed or screwed up and it all still flowed well. With some books the authors have trouble keeping a bunch of different lines clear and distinct. I think that Rowling does a great job because she keeps all of the storylines connected at one clear point, which is a way that she can circle back to if anything does by chance get a little off track (but even that hasn't happened)

I am looking forward to reading the final three books!

Women in the Word Wednesday - 2012 Summer Study Wk 1

Photobucket
Today I am linking up with Good Morning Girls for "Women in the Word Wednesday"

I wasn't really 100% committed to these link-ups before, but I think that they can be beneficial in both getting your thoughts somewhat in order and in meeting other women who are in the word. Also, I am a GMG group leader for the first time, and what better way to lead than by example :)

I am not 100% sure what to blog about, so I thought I would just re-cap some of my ideas and thoughts that I have shared with my group thus far.

For those of you who are new to my blog, welcome! I hope you enjoy it and would love if you left a comment so that I could return the favor and visit your blog.

Monday - Proverbs 31:1-2
I thought the reading from the book was very insightful, the Proverbs 31 woman is a model that we as women should try to aspire toward, yet how many of us are actually like this woman? The woman in the scripture has no name. I feel that this is because there is no woman who is like this. I kind of look at it as aspirational. While I think we can be like the Proverbs 31 woman and while I would like to aspire to that, I am not 100% sure that I could be like her in every way. And I honestly think that is okay. I think the important thing is trying to be like her.

I also like the idea that Proverbs 31:1-2 alights upon, that King Lemuel was taught these messages from his mother. I think it is great that here in the Bible, where it is discussing the ideal woman and what she does it is a woman who is teaching her attributes. So often it seems like men dictate what women should do, wear, how they should act, etc. and to see that this message is coming from a woman makes me quite happy.

Tuesday - Proverbs 31:3-4
--Verse 3--"do not waste your strength on women" --> I think this means that women can have a lot of power in swaying men and that men should not be distracted by women
-- Verse 4 - importance is the warning against drunkenness, not just for the King, but also for anyone who has a role of power (as it says in the verse, "kings" "rulers")

Wednesday - Proverbs 31:5-6
What I thought was interesting in the verses for today was particularly in verse 5 where it says that "if they drink, they may forget the law and not give justice to the oppressed"

Being in the legal field I have seen lots of lawyers, judges, etc. who are constantly around alcohol. I'm not sure if this was your experience Amanda and Alicia, but at every legal event I went to throughout law school and afterward it was almost as though alcohol was glorified. I do think a lot of lawyers and judges have problems with alcoholism and it just seemed interesting to me that the Bible mentions that alcohol may make people forget the law and here we have a society where those who have a big hand in giving justice are the ones who tend to have alcohol problems.

Half Marathon Training Run 3.38

I do not enjoy running in the heat! I need to get up and be out to run tomorrow morning at 8am. That way it won't be as hot and that way I can get in the habit of running earlier, especially since my half is on Sunday and is in the morning. I suppose I did run in the heat of the day... Not my smartest moment, but I did it! :)
