This year, as of tonight, I am at 363.07 miles. My goal is still 400 miles.

That means I have 36.93 miles left for the year.

Mileage goal for 2012

As of November 5th I have ran 316.18 miles in the year 2012.

My goal for this year for mileage is 400 miles.

To meet my goal of 400 miles ran this year I need to complete 83.82 miles before December 31st.

There are 56 days left in the year.

That means I need to average 1.50 miles per day.

I am hoping to get back into running and had a successful day today. Hopefully this is the start of getting back on track to meeting (and beating) my goal!

Just Closed...[Gone Girl]

Gone GirlGone Girl by Gillian Flynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I actually REALLY liked this book. It was not at all what I expected it to be and that is definitely not a bad thing. I liked how they transitioned back and forth between the two main characters and it was definitely easy to follow. A very psychological book and look at the demise of a marriage, the secrets people hide, and the horrors that can arise when people go off the deep end.

Just Closed...[Beautiful Ruins]

Beautiful RuinsBeautiful Ruins by Jess Walter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

"The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying.

And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot—searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

What unfolds is a dazzling, yet deeply human, roller coaster of a novel, spanning fifty years and nearly as many lives. From the lavish set of Cleopatra to the shabby revelry of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Walter introduces us to the tangled lives of a dozen unforgettable characters: the starstruck Italian innkeeper and his long-lost love; the heroically preserved producer who once brought them together and his idealistic young assistant; the army veteran turned fledgling novelist and the rakish Richard Burton himself, whose appetites set the whole story in motion—along with the husbands and wives, lovers and dreamers, superstars and losers, who populate their world in the decades that follow. Gloriously inventive, constantly surprising, Beautiful Ruins is a story of flawed yet fascinating people, navigating the rocky shores of their lives while clinging to their improbable dreams." [Book description via amazon.com]

Now for my review. I LOVED this book. I won't lie, it was a little hard to get into at first, but after it got going I devoured it. The last book I read "The Red House" did a poor job of linking multiple story-lines. This book did a FANTASTIC job. Even with going between stories it did so in such a fluid way and the author really connected the characters all to the main story. I was very moved by the book. I felt the happiness, the sorrow. I even caught myself tearing up at points. This story really captures the realities of life and how things can be so "beautifully ruined" and how while things may not often go according to plan, they often go in the ways that they should, even if its not what we initially hope for. Sometimes it is what we need.

The Mansion of Happiness: A History of Life and DeathThe Mansion of Happiness: A History of Life and Death by Jill Lepore
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I really liked this book. I thought it was an interesting way to write a "history" of rather mundane things. I would say that at times it was a little bit too technical, which is why I gave it 3 instead of 4 stars, but other than that, I really liked it!

The Red House: A NovelThe Red House: A Novel by Mark Haddon
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was expecting more from this book. Not that I read anything by this author before (so I wasn't expecting like another such and such book or anything). But I did read great reviews. It wasn't that this was a bad book. It was just an "ok" book. It was a quick read which was nice, but it was too disjointed between the characters. It would jump from one person's perspective in one paragraph into another's, and that made it hard to follow for me. I also found myself confusing characters because of this... I think it was a good mix of characters and it made the overall "plot" good, but the subplots were often badly written. This is why I only gave it 2 stars.

August Fitness Goal - Weekly Plan

So, as you have seen, I ran a total of 5 miles in July. Just 5.

I recently decided that for the month of August I would like to try to run (or "wog") every day!

ACCOMPLISHED
Sunday - 40 min wog + Day 5 Strong Like Susan = 41:00 for 2.90 miles
Monday - 40 min wog + Day 6 Strong Like Susan = 41:00 for 2.90 miles
Tuesday - 40 min wog + Day 7 Strong Like Susan = 40:00 for 3.20 miles
Wednesday - 40 min wog + Day 8 Strong Like Susan (rest) = 40:00 for 3.06 miles
Thursday - 40 min wog + Day 9 Strong Like Susan = 40:00 for 3.01 miles
Friday - 40 min wog + Day 10 Strong Like Susan
Saturday - 40 min wog + Day 11 Strong Like Susan

Weekly Miles (Thus far) = 15.07

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

A new month means it's time to get back on track!

Last month I ran a total of 5 miles.

Yep.

A measly 5.

I will not be doing that again this month! No siree!

Today I did a jog/walk combo where I did 10 minutes jog, 2 minutes walk, 8 minutes jog, 2 minutes walk, 6 minutes jog, 2 minutes walk, 4 minutes jog, 2 minutes walk, 2 minutes jog, 2 minutes walk.

Hopefully I can do this again tomorrow and maybe even cover a little more distance? :)

In addition to starting afresh with my running, I have also decided that I need to do start the Strong Like Susan abs program that I had signed up for last month but failed to ever start.

I didn't even do 1 day.

That will not be the case this month!

Plan for the rest of the week...

ACCOMPLISHED
Wednesday - Wog 40 min + Day 1 Strong Like Susan
Thursday - Wog 40 min + Day 2 Strong Like Susan
Friday - Wog 40 min + Day 3 Strong Like Susan
Saturday - Wog 40 min + Day 4 Strong Like Susan (rest day)

Just Closed...[Hemlock #1]

Hemlock (Hemlock, #1)Hemlock by Kathleen Peacock
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I checked out this book on a whim and I am so glad that I did. It is definitely not your average para-normal fantasy book. Yes, it has werewolves, yes it has a kick ass protagonist, but it is definitely not like the other cookie cutter books out there. It had so many unexpected twists and turns and I love how it left on a cliff hanger that will set things up nicely for the next book!

This was a fantastic follow-up to Divergent. I cannot wait to read the third book once it comes out! Tris is a great protagonist and I really enjoyed getting to learn more about all of the other factions, since they weren't really described in the first book.

Sometimes I wonder if I will ever succeed...

And then things happen that remind me to be positive and to keep trying, to keep striving for my dreams.

After a hard first day of the Bar exam I am trying to unwind in my hotel room. I have done 18 practice MBEs and reviewed my MBE tips for all subjects. Even though I am not on Facebook right now, I can still access it through Harrison's account. Tonight I wanted to take a look around and let me just say, I am definitely feeling the love....

I was overwhelmed by the positive messages people posted for me, even in my absence!

"Please continue to think good thoughts for my sister who will be enduring her second day of bar testing tomorrow. She is such a trooper and I can't imagine doing what she has done to fulfill her dreams. I love you sister!" - Status update from my sister

"Keeping some dear friends in my heart today & tomorrow as they are taking the bar. Eek. Love you all♥" - Status update from one of my best friends

"Jenna is in Portland spending the night before the start of her 2-day marathon State Bar Exam tomorrow & Wednesday. Please channel good thoughts her way the next few days! I ♥ U All!" - Status update from my dad

And, last but definitely not least... Joe has been sad with me not home and he has been sending lots of texts... here is a back and forth we had tonight...

"I hope you stay with me if you pass" - Joe
"I hope you stay with me if I fail" - Me
"I will always be here, win or lose" - Joe

I am so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family, they have never gave up on me, even with this being my third time taking the Bar. I really hope this time is the time that it clicks, the time that I pass.

Wherein I apologize for not posting anything substantive, only to post something unsubstantive...

I have sure been MIA with any substantive posts lately, and for that I am sorry. For those of you who still read my blog, which I think is like 2 of you (if I'm even that lucky) unfortunately this post isn't going to be really substantive either.

It's not that I don't have things to blog about. I have tons of things!

Various experiences during my work for Kenneth Cole, which is now complete, different thoughts and rants regarding Bar study, exercise (or my lack thereof) rants, just to name a few. I am just popping in to say that I am still here.

I am sorry I haven't been keeping up with many of you lately, I am so behind in reader, but I am trying to get through chunks at a time and at least starring the posts that I will comment on, eventually.

The Bar is this upcoming Tuesday and Wednesday. Then I will be gone camping from Friday through Monday. All of this being said I am hoping to be back with more substantive posts after all of this madness is over.

Please keep me in your thoughts as I review over the next couple days and especially as I take the exam on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hopefully this is the last time I take this thing! I am so ready to be done!

Just Closed... [Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince]

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6)Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think this was my favorite of the series so far, at least tied with the Goblet of Fire. I cannot believe how weepy I got at the end of the book, definitely one of the more emotional things that has happened in this series. I won't say what I am referring to for fear of spoiling it for anyone who may not have read it yet, but for those of you who have, you know what I am referring to. It has been so exciting to follow these characters and watch them grow. I am so excited for the final book but I am also sad because it means that I am almost done with the series. I know that I was super late getting on the HP wagon, but consider me a huge fan! :)

Weight-Loss Wednesday #4

I'm back for week 4 of my weight-loss Wednesdays! If you haven't seen this weekly thing I am now doing, you can check out my first entry HERE. As I mentioned in week 1, I am going to be sharing Bob Harper's Skinny Rules over the course of the next 13 weeks and I am going to share my progress on meeting his rules and trying to incorporate them into my life!

Last week I shared Rules 4 and 5.

All of that being said, I am now moving on to the next rule.

Rule #6 - Eat apples and berries every single day. Every. Single. Day!

Bob's section for this rule included some helpful tips that I wanted to share regarding fruits and vegetables.
Worth it organics
-          Apples
-          Asparagus
-          Celery
-          Cherries
-          Lettuce
-          Nectarines
-          Peaches
-          Pears
-          Spinach
-          Strawberries
-          Sweet bell peppers
-          Tomatoes

Not worth it organics
-          Avocados, bananas, broccoli, cabbage, frozen peas, kiwi, mangos, onions, papayas, pineapple

Berries and apples are good because they have phytochemicals that restore balance. Also Bob talks about how frozen berries are just as good as fresh and can often be cheaper, if price is your main issue. Just be sure they don’t have extra added sugar!

Weight-Loss Wednesday #3

I'm back for week 3 of my weight-loss Wednesdays! If you haven't seen this weekly thing I am now doing, you can check out my first entry HERE. As I mentioned last week, I am going to be sharing Bob Harper's Skinny Rules over the course of the next 13 weeks and I am going to share my progress on meeting his rules and trying to incorporate them into my life!

Last week I shared Rule 3. I have ate protein at every meal, just probably not as much protein as Bob would suggest. Sometimes I find it difficult, so I need to work on finding quick and easy ways to incorporate a good amount of protein into my daily meals.

All of that being said, I am now moving on to the next rule.

Rule #4 - Slash your intake of refined flours and grains

If they are at all “refined” they will make you fat. Even if they state that they are heart healthy, low fat, etc.

Grains are a lot like liquid calories once your body processes them.

Farro to barley are good grains that you soak.

Bread should say “whole grain wheat flour” or “sprouted whole wheat”

Check to see that no sweetener is included in the first five ingredients!

No more than ½ cup of brown rice at a time (will be hard for me)

Rule #5 - Eat 30 to 50 grams of fiber a day

Fiber is so important. Bob emphasizes that whole grain fiber diets are associated with lower BMIs. He highly recommends fruits and veggies with high fiber contents as well as some cereals and beans.

Trudging along

I have so many post ideas rattling around in my brain... and even some in "draft" form here on Blogger. Yet, I have no finished posts and no desire to finish any of my blurbs... Just wanted to say that I am still here, still trudging along, studying for the bar, running, and working as a sales associate. Hopefully will have more of an extensive "update" soon!

Women in the Word Wednesday - 2012 Summer Study Wk 7

Photobucket

Today I am linking up with Good Morning Girls for "Women in the Word Wednesday"

Thursday, June 21st
- 1 Thessalonians 4:11
- Proverbs 19:17

1 Thess. 4:11 says "and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you," and Proverbs 19:17 says "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done."

These verses are so important because they reiterate that we should mind our own business, not being gossips and that we should be kind to the poor. As I told my mom yesterday, I know that I am needy right now, but I also know that there are plenty of people who are much less fortunate than I, those who have no food in their bellies, no roof over their heads, and for that I should give back what I can, I should help. Too often do we spend time thinking "woe is me" and "how hard this life is for me" that we don't stop and think that we should be grateful for what we have, because it is often a lot more than others. I struggle with this A LOT, especially lately while I have been unemployed and slowly going broke. Today I am praying for a thankful attitude toward the blessings that I have, the necessaries that I have so that I can survive. Yes, maybe I don't have the extravagances, and yes, that sucks, but what I do have is a lot and I need to be continually thankful for it.

Friday, June 22nd
- GMG Reflection

Today I continued in my Living a Divinely Inspired Life devotional and todays reading focused on David and the raid that occurred at his camp, specifically the events of 1 Samuel 30:1-20. He lost everything, but he listened to God who assured him he would get it all back and he did! This is encouraging to me because it shows we can get back what we have lost, the Lord will help us and guide us, as long as we believe and listen to him. What a great message!

Monday, June 25th
- Proverbs 31:21
- Proverbs 27:23
- Proverbs 31 Woman book p. 24-25

"When it snows, she has no fear for her household, for all of them are clothed in scarlet." - Proverbs 31:21

I honestly was not sure what this verse meant by saying they are "clothed in scarlet" and what it had to do with snow and winter months. I did think that it meant the color, but then I realized that it made no sense at all, so I did some research. Apparently to be clothed in scarlet it means to be double clothed. The Proverbs 31 woman does not worry about her family in the winter months because she is able to provide her family with warm clothes, they are clothed in scarlet and therefore protected and warmed from the cold. Now that makes sense!

As for Proverbs 27:23 it states, "Know the state of your flocks, and put your heart into caring for your herds." Generally I think this means that we must show a positive and welcoming regard for our flocks, we must take good care of them, making sure they have everything they need.

Tuesday, June 26th
- Psalm 46:1-2

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea" I think this is so timely for all of us lately. We must never forget that God is our refuge in these tough and troubling times. I have been worrying about money SO MUCH lately and it is driving me crazy! I did finally get hours at my job, now that they got the HR fiasco sorted out, but still, it's not many. I am trying to think of it as some hours are better than no hours, which is so true, and hopefully after I show them the good worker that I can be they will schedule me for many more hours! We will see!

Wednesday, June 27th
- Proverbs 31:22
- Titus 2:9-10
- Proverbs 31 Woman book p. 26

"She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple." She just does everything, no? Not only does she rise early, make purchases for her family, feed her family, clothe her family, but she also makes coverings for her bed! What a woman! I like that we see the type of clothing she wears, that being fine linen and purple. To me this shows that she not only cares about making sure her life is in order and taking care of her family, but she also cares about her appearance. When I see that she is clothed in purple I automatically think royalty, and I'm not sure why, I suppose it's because purple seems to be associated with regal-ness, etc.

"Slaves must always obey their masters and do their best to please them. They must not talk back or steal, but must show themselves to be entirely trustworthy and good. Then they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive in every way." Honestly, I am unsure why we are reading this verse along with the other one, is this to say that women are slaves? I know that is not what it is literally implying, it just seems to be the "implied" meaning by having this verse assigned here with the other. I suppose we could just think of it as individuals must do their best to make sure things are done well, without protest, showing their worth and value. By doing so they will glorify God because not only will they be teaching by their words, but also through their actions and how they live life and serve others.

Weight-Loss Wednesday #2

I'm back for week 2 of my weight-loss Wednesdays!

Last week I shared Rules 1 and 2. I have done pretty good at drinking water and staying hydrated, but I do need to continue to try drinking a glass of water before EVERY meal. That is definitely something I struggle with. Also, drinking a glass of water right after I wake up. Usually I go for the coffee first thing and then have water afterward. As for rule 2, I am doing a lot better about not drinking my calories. For example, this weekend when I got Joe and I coffee at Dutch Bros I made sure to get a sugarfree nonfat white mocha, which is definitely a better option than the regular white mochas I so often would enjoy.

All of that being said, I am now moving on to the next rule.

Rule # 3 - Eat Protein at Every Meal - Or Stay Hungry and Grouchy

Bob suggests that we eat protein at EVERY single meal. Not just because it is so very important to our bodies, but because we should be eating at least half of our body weight in grams of protein EVERY day. That means for a 170 pound person you should be eating 85 grams of protein A DAY. Obviously that is not something you could easily consume at one single meal.

Plus keeping protein as something you include all day throughout the day will help the body to be able to stay full and satisfied without eating a lot of other junk that we often turn to in times of hunger.

Types of protein he focuses on in the book include those that are found in:

- Fish (his NUMBER ONE choice)
- Eggs
- Chicken and turkey (preferably organic or "free range")
- Pork (loin for lowest in calories, while rump has highest fat and should be avoided)
- Beef (preferably organic and grass fed, with the leanest cuts being eye of round and sirloin tip side, and the fattiest being t-bone and rib-eye)
- Cheese (not bad, just remember to eat it in moderation, with many low in calories and high in protein, there are some "healthier" options available)
- Tofu and tempeh (which he suggests are good to have on your "meatless" days, which he suggests to try for at least 1 day per week).

Lose a Marathon Challenge - Week 1 (completed)

This marks the first week of the 13 week challenge that I am participating in, called Lose a Marathon! The goal is for me to lose 26.2 pounds (or MORE) over the next 13 weeks! There is also the Lose a Half Marathon program where the goal is to lose 13.1 pounds over the next 13 weeks.

In order to lose 2 pounds a week I need to create a 1000 calorie deficit each day, that will certainly be tough, but I think I can do it! I am thinking about starting to do 2 a day workouts a few days a week, just to kick start things. I have also decided to re-start the #6PackMarch challenge from The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans that you can find HERE.

Obviously I have to change the schedule since I will be starting on the 19th (today), which will technically be the 1st on the calendar.

The "Zen" of Running

Had to share this with my fellow bloggers in it's own separate post because I know I have a lot of runner followers... I just read the most simplistic book about running ever, and I LOVED it.

You can find it for purchase HERE on Amazon. Or you can be like me and check it out from your library!

What the book looks like...

 Photobucket
Wise words that I wanted to share... and yes, the whole book was like this.

I couldn't just stop with the above, I had to add in some more pages to share. In a world of training books and books about running, this is definitely different. Some of you might think it a little too hippie dippie for your liking, but I really enjoyed it and thought it was so nice to step back from all competition of running and just think about running and how good it can be for a person. I highly recommend to everyone that is a runner to pick it up or at least check it out! :)

I am assuming this is author, Fred Rohe, enjoying a run... There are multiple pictures of this man running, which has led me to this conclusion.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For being a hippie dippie sort of book I really enjoyed it. It was short and sweet and focused on all of the good that can come from running. If you are a runner I would I highly recommend it.

Weight-Loss Wednesday #1

Today at the library I finally was able to get the book I have been waiting anxiously for...

Photobucket

The Skinny Rules by Bob Harper! It was published on May 15, 2012 and I was on the waiting list at my library for about a month-ish. I am soooo glad I got on the list earlier or I could have been waiting awhile!

Here is a brief description of the book for those of you who are not familiar with this book...

"THE LAST DIET BOOK YOU’LL EVER NEED

With so much conflicting weight-loss advice out there to confuse your efforts, it’s no wonder you haven’t been successful losing weight and keeping it off. But with Bob Harper, superstar trainer and co-host of NBC’s hit show The Biggest Loser as your personal authority and coach, you can and will finally shed the pounds—whether you want to lose two or two hundred!

Distilling Bob’s vast knowledge of nutrition, weight-loss strategy, and human nature down to twenty simple, nonnegotiable principles, The Skinny Rules will help you step away from a reliance on processed foods and the need for so much sweet and salt and step into a newly thin lifestyle. And Bob’s methods couldn’t be more straightforward.

Taking the guesswork out of implementing the Skinny Rules, Bob offers a month’s worth of menu plans and more than 90 delicious, rule-abiding recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks to keep you cooking and eating skinny for life. You’ll be happily astounded to see the variety and volume of the tasty food on your plate! A virtual GPS to your weight-loss goals, The Skinny Rules takes the mystery out of the process, offering the fastest route to your skinny destination.

LOSING WEIGHT IS NOW AS SIMPLE AS 1-2-3 . . . AND 3-15-18-20 TOO!
[via]

For those of you who are interested in this book you can get it HERE on Amazon, in hardcover, in Kindle edition, or on audiobook. You can also be like me and get it from your local library for free!

Now, all of that being said, with the starting up of the LoseAMarathon Challenge HERE, I have decided that while I will be weighing in on Mondays for the challenge (and Thursdays for my own personal wishes) that I also wanted to start a weekly bloggy link-up for all of my fitness-conscious bloggy buddies who wish to participate.

Without further ado I would like to introduce you to "Weight-Loss Wednesdays"! This is my (and your) opportunity to look at what sorts of things are working, what things aren't working, and what new things we might like to try as we progress on our weight-loss journeys.

I don't want this to be too structured, but I thought for the first 13 weeks while I am doing the LoseAMarathon Challenge, I could utilize the 20 "rules" that Bob Harper lays out in his book.

I have decided that since there are 20 rules that I will discuss 2 rules every other week and 1 rule every other week... (if that is confusing just think of it this way... Week 1 = rules 1 and 2, week 2 = rule 3, week 4 = rules 4 and 5, and so on.)

I will share the rule(s) here on my blog and then discuss how I am will work toward incorporating them into my weight loss, or if I am already doing so I will discuss that and how it is working (or not working)

If you wish to participate you can do so by linking-up on Wednesdays and sharing how you are working toward incorporating the "rules" etc.

Rule #1 - Drink a large glass of water BEFORE every meal - NO EXCUSES!

Bob re-iterates the importance of staying hydrated and he specifically emphasizes the importance of drinking your first glass of water within 15 minutes of waking up. He also emphasizes how you can burn increasing amounts of calories, just by drinking water! That is definitely something I can get on board with! :)

While I am getting a lot better about drinking water regularly and staying hydrated, but I am definitely not drinking a full glass of water within 15 minutes of waking up! This is something that I want to set as a personal goal for myself.

Rule #2 - Don't Drink Your Calories

Love soft drinks? Love fancy coffee drinks? Love alcohol? Yes, they may taste good, but do you realize they often have the caloric content of a full meal?

I recently decided to stop drinking soda. It has been tough and I won't say that I haven't slipped up and drank soda on occasion, but it is definitely not the staple it used to be in my life.

If you have an addiction to soda Bob suggests slowly weaning off of it by experimenting with other flavored drinks without calories. Like the fizz? Try seltzer water with lemon juice. Make unsweetened tea, or juice!

I will admit, I love coffee. When I am getting coffee out and about I will generally try to be good and get non-fat, sugar-free, no whip, etc. Which is better than full calories any time, but it is still something I need to work on. I enjoy a cup of coffee every morning and I do enjoy nondairy creamer. Bob suggests using skim milk or soy milk if you cannot drink just black coffee. Do not add sugar. This is something that I would like to try to do and will report back on.

**As of right now I do not have a cute little button (or any button for that matter) for this link-up, but rest assured, I will soon!

Don't forget to link-up below so that I can see your post!

Women in the Word Wednesday - 2012 Summer Study Wk 6

Photobucket

Today I am linking up with Good Morning Girls for "Women in the Word Wednesday"

Thursday, June 14th
- Proverbs 14:23
- 1 Thessalonians 4:11

Proverbs 14:23 says "All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty." I wonder if this is where the saying "talk is cheap" comes from. I mean, that is essentially what is being said here, right? 1 Thressalonians 4:11 says "and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you" I like this verse about leading a quiet life. It doesn't necessarily mean "quiet" in the sense of not making a sound or not speaking, but quiet in the sense that you shouldn't be out there causing trouble, picking fights, or trying to involve yourself in matters that don't concern you. It also says you should work with your hands. I like that it says that specifically because it means you should get right down to it, right in the heart of it, as closely connected to your work as one can be. What a great mental picture.

Friday, June 15th
- GMG Reflection
- Living a Divinely Inspired Life Devotional (Day 1) --> Genesis 12:1-3, Psalm 139:13-18

I am reading a devotional called "Living a Divinely Inspired Life" and todays verses were Genesis 12:1-3 and Psalm 139:13-18. The focus of the reading was about our purpose and about asking God to show us what that purpose is. I think this reading was extremely timely for me as I am suffering through a sort of depression. I feel like I have no purpose. I spend days here at home, often with little to no social interaction with the outside world. I have recently deactivated FB again for studying, which has been helpful for getting more done, but has also left me feeling so disconnected from life. I miss hearing about people and what's going on in their lives. Yes, maybe I was living vicariously through them on FB, but still, it was some sort of connection, no matter how slight.

Monday, June 18th
- Proverbs 31:19
- Proverbs 31 Woman book p. 20-21

The verse states "in her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers." I had to look and see what a distaff is because I was unsure as to what it was. According to Merriam Webster it says a distaff is "A stick or spindle onto which wool or flax is wound for spinning" I suppose this verse means that she makes things on a spinning device.

The Proverbs 31 woman weaves her own clothes, she works with her hands. Not only does she rise early, burn the late night oils, travel far to provide food for her family, etc. but she also makes clothing! What a woman! What a standard for us to aspire toward. While I may never make my own clothing, I can make other things for my family, and I should!

Tuesday, June 19th
- Colossians 3:23
- Ephesians 6:7

The focus of the two verses was to work happily at whatever we are working on, with a feeling that we are working for the Lord as opposed to working for people. Work as though we are working for a higher power and a greater good. I think this is a great thing to remember because we need to work and sometimes if we work with a higher power in mind maybe we will be more happy in our work.

Wednesday, June 20th
- Proverbs 31:20
- Deuteronomy 15:7-8
- Proverbs 11:25
- Proverbs 31 Woman book p. 22-23

The book passage focused on the virtue of Proverbs 31:20 which says "She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy." We see here another trait of this miraculous woman, she has helping hands that help the poor. Today I prayed for beautiful hands, not in the literal sense, but in the sense of giving me hands that are beautiful because of the work that I have done for others, because of the kindness they have shown in providing food or money, or other resources to someone who is in need. Today I pray for beautiful hands for all of us. The other two sets of verses we read focused on the same realm of helping others, particularly those in need. Deuteronomy 15:7-8 says "If anyone is poor among your fellow Israelites in any of the towns of the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not be hardhearted or tightfisted toward them. Rather, be openhanded and freely lend them whatever they need." To me this means that we should not be stingy when it comes to the poor, but rather we should give back freely. This is definitely something that I need to work on. I pray that I will be able to be more giving to others. And lastly Proverbs 11:25 says "A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed." As a blogger I followed stated this is the "water and be watered" verse. We must give in order to receive, we must water in order to be watered, we must refresh in order to be refreshed. What you give out to the world really will come back to you, so you best make it something good and something you want to receive again

Lose a Marathon (26.2) Challenge

As you readers know, I have been struggling with my weight loss journey for awhile. I have been yo-yoing back and forth for awhile and I have recently been up in the higher weight ranges, especially after law school stress and Bar exam study stress, etc.

When I saw the "Lose a Marathon" challenge on numerous friends' blogs, I decided to take a look at it. Run with Jess has designed this challenge and you can read all about it HERE. It started yesterday, but the first weigh-in isn't until next Monday, so there is still time to sign up if you want to participate. Jess also has a "Lose a Half Marathon" challenge as well, for those of you with less weight to lose.

So, who is in?

Just Closed... [Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix]

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5)Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book! All havoc has ran loose since the end of the last book when Harry comes out of the maze at the end of the Triwizard Competition claiming that Lord Voldemort is back. Nobody believes him except for Dumbledore, Ron, Hermoine, and the Order of the Phoenix. This book is about the strife he goes through getting people to believe, how his 5th year at Hogwarts goes, and ends in another epic battle!

2 minutes sprint (1) = 0.18 mile at 11:08 pace
2 minutes recovery jog (1) = 0.15 mile at 12:56 pace
2 minutes sprint (2) = 0.18 mile at 10:52 pace
2 minutes recovery jog (2) = 0.15 mile at 12:56 pace
2 minutes sprint (3) = 0.20 mile at 10:12 pace
2 minutes recovery jog (3) = 0.15 mile at 13:27 pace
2 minutes sprint (4) = 0.20 mile at 9:50 pace** (would like to see this consistently for sprints)
2 minutes recovery jog (4) = 0.14 mile at 13:51 pace

I wanted to do 3 minutes instead of 2 but I need to ease into speed work I think :)

First time in a LONG time doing sprints

And yes, these ARE sprints for me, even if my sprinting pace is slower than you fast people's regular paces :)

Total: 2.39 miles in 30:00
