February Challenge Month - Day 1
Here I am at DAY 1 of my three February Challenges that I will be participating in!
February Burpee Challenge
- Day 1 = 1 burpee
- ACCOMPLISHED! Let me just say here on Day 1, that these suckers are HARDER than they look!
Fab Ab February
- Day 1 = 10 Sit-Ups, 4 Push-Ups, 10 seconds Plank
- ACCOMPLISHED! Not too bad, but I can see it getting progressively worse as the month goes on. Hopefully I condition fast enough to where it doesn't hurt me too bad :)
February Photo A Day
- Day 1 = My View
* For today I decided to use a picture of "my view" during my jog in the park this evening right before sunset! This is a small creek that runs along the park and it was just too beautiful of a sight to not take a picture of!

February Challenge Month!
So I stumbled across some very interesting February challenges on my friend Courtney's Blog and I decided that I had to participate! :)
Here are the challenges in no particular order...
A Twitter buddy of Courtney's, @MaddyHubba has started the #burpeefebruary challenge. Basically you do 1 burpee on February 1st, 2 burpees on February 2nd, and so on. I can see this getting challenging once we hit the double digits!
Then next we have the February Photo a Day Challenge which is being hosted by Fat Mum Slim and will be a fun way for me to partake in a modified 365 project (or I suppose it would be 366 for this year)
I never can keep up for the whole year, so here's hoping it isn't too bad for just 1 month!
Lastly, we have the challenge of Fab Ab February. Who doesn't want fab abs? Seriously. This will be not only fun (yes, I use that term loosely) but it will always be helpful to keep myself accountable!

Women in the Word Wednesday #2
Today was my final day of my Fostering Hope devotional.
The topic of today's story and study was Old Made New.
It talked about how instead of just getting rid of things when they are old, why no rehabilitate them? It focused on foster children who were often products of cycles of abuse, drugs, and other criminal issues passed on by generation and generation. Instead of just letting these people go, the message was about helping them, directing them to better lives and showing them they don't just have to be caught up in these cycles.
The corresponding verse was Jeremiah 29:11 that is too powerful for me not to share "for I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, they are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
I love this verse.
It is extremely powerful.
I have to look at it a lot because I often wonder what God's plan is for my life. Why did I not pass the Bar the first time? Why did He think I should do it again? Why did He think I was strong enough to endure this all over again? What is the point in all of it? I have to step back and remind myself that He has a plan. It is not about MY plan. And whenever I feel like things are spinning out of control, I just try to remember that it is all in His plan. He has plans for my future and He has hope for my future.
Happy Wednesday to all of you!

Just Closed... [Alex and Me]
Alex & Me: How a Scientist and a Parrot Discovered a Hidden World of Animal Intelligence--and Formed a Deep Bond in the Process by Irene M. Pepperberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
"You be good. I love you." Those were the last words Alex uttered to his trainer and long-time friend, Dr. Irene Pepperberg. Even writing them now nearly brings me to tears. This book was excellent. While it started off a bit pompous with Dr. Pepperberg touting her extreme intelligence by using inflated verbs and various 20 and 30 dollar words in Chapter 1, it really told a wonderful story. Yes, this was a story about how Alex learned to use labels and how he learned how to differentiate between objects, sizes, quantities, etc. But, it was about more than that. It was about a connection that develops between human and animal, especially when they are spending so much time together. Having my own African Grey, I feel really made me connect to this book, more than potentially a non-owner might. That being said, I think that anyone who reads this book would enjoy it, and especially if you are a pet owner. The way that Dr. Pepperberg interwove stories of Alex's achievements and studies with stories of just how he acted on a day to day, were wonderful. I read this book outloud to my fiance and while we had times where we cried, we also had many many times where we would bust up laughing. Alex had quite the personality and I can only imagine what it would have been like to actually meet him. All of that being said, I HIGHLY recommend this book.
